Ramechhap Hariyo Latte is a traditional leafy vegetable from Nepal, developed through participatory plant breeding. It was officially registered as the first amaranth variety in Nepal in 2018, marking a significant milestone in the country’s agricultural development.
This variety is well-suited for cultivation in regions ranging from the Terai to elevations of 1,650 meters above sea level. Typically sown in Chaitra (March–April), it is harvested by Asar (June–July), making it an ideal seasonal crop for leafy greens. It is particularly valued for its high nutritional content, including rich levels of iron, calcium, and magnesium. While it is consumed as a leafy vegetable, similar varieties like Rato Latte are promoted for grain production.
