Since 2023, CSB Nepal has been implementing a three-year project entitled Strengthening the Capacity of Community Seed Banks Nepal for Promoting Farmers’ Rights and Food Security in collaboration with LI-BIRD, Pokhara, and the Development Fund, Norway.
The specific objectives of this initiative are to:
- Establish a well-functioning internal control and management mechanisms of the CSB Nepal for good governance and sustainability,
- Capacity building of CSB Nepal staff and members for effective advocacy for scaling up and mainstreaming the community seed banks, and
- Capacity building of member community seed banks for effective on-farm management of local crop diversity to improve food security, nutrition, and income of smallholder farmers, and the realization of Farmers’ Rights.
Activities included under these initiatives have been grouped into four work packages namely,
- Establishing governance and management mechanisms of the CSB Nepal,
- Advocacy for scaling up and mainstreaming of community seed bank approach and promoting farmers’ rights,
- Capacity building of member community seed banks for on-farm management of local crop diversity, and
- Information and dissemination.
